Love is flirting ourtageously and still remembering that the person at your side is not obligated to do anything, It’s respect.
Love is an imperfection in your self not bothering you, it’s acceptance.
Love is passing up an opportunity because the time isn’t right yet, It’s patience.
Love is a back massage that starts above the hairline and ends around the insoles, it’s exploration.
Love does not have to say, “lets make love,” because you know what the other person wants, it understands.
Love is being given an honest chance to say no when you thought you were committed, it’s consideration.
Love is both of you remembering protection, it’s responsibility.
Love is saying the perfect phrase to make a solemn embrace dissolve into giggles, it’s humor.
Love is being told “stop and i’ll kill you.” It’s desire.
Love is reviewing the damage to your living room and realizing personal effects are strewn in a clockwise pattern from the front door the to bedroom, it’s abandonment.
Love is seeing what your love really looks like for the first time, it’s truth.
Love is knowing what time it is and not caring, it’s joy.
Love is the arms around you tightening their embrace, it’s ecstacy.
Love is seeing a new side of a person you thought you knew, it’s renewal.
Love is telling a person if you have to leave, you will let them sleep, and being told they would rather be woken, it’s tenderness.
Love is waking up to find the subject of the dream you were having asleep on your shoulder, it’s where fantasy meets reality.
Love is being there to wake your lover slowly, it’s sensuousness.
Love belatedly knows why you bothered to buy a queen-sized bed three years ago, it’s practicality.
Love is two people only taking up a third of a queen-sized bed, it’s closeness.
Love knows you gave the extra set of keys to your apartment to the right person, its trust.
Love is saying good-bye and knowing you will be back by mutual consent, its faith.
Love is stretching your arms and discovering the real meaning of the word “sore” it’s a lesson in human frailty.
Love is opening your medicine cabinet finding your tube of toothpaste turned into a prezel, it’s adaptation.
Love is sitting at the window, looking out and remembering who you were with the night before, it’s reflection.
Love is hearing the weather forecast for a winter storm and wishing you could spend it in bed with your lover, it’s loneliness.
Love is stories that will never be told, it’s personal.

If God Had Wanted Us to Wear Flat Shoes…

“If God had wanted us to wear flat shoe Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman once famously observed, “he wouldn’t have invented Manolo Blahnik.” And if you were lucky enough to be at the Design Museum at 28 Shad Thames in London last summer, you got to see the famous Blahnik sketches and meet the man himself.

Born in Santa Cruz de la Palma in the Canary Islands, Blahnik absorbed the playfulness and color of his native land. Indeed, exotic locales would continue to inform his work throughout his career. For example, his boutique in New York is graced with Kuba cloth from the Congo, and in 1991 he designed shoes inspired by the Masai for Christian Dior Haute Couture.

In his childhood, he admired famed fashion photographer Cecil Beaton. “I was possessed by Cecil Beaton all through my youth,” Blahnik says. “I loved his photographs, his drawings, and especially his diaries. He was at the center of a world which held a huge attraction for me.”

At the University of Geneva, he studied architecture and literature. In Paris, he studied art. But fate already had a plan for young Blahnik. Thinking he would be a set designer, he showed his theater designs to Vogue editor Diana Vreeland. “Young man, do things. Do accessories. Do shoes,” she was said to have directed.

Blahnik’s first collaboration was with designer Ossie Clark in 1971. Soon Bianca Jagger would be riding into Studio 54 on a white horse (literally) and dancing the night away in Blahnik stilettos. Now the designer, along with his sister and business partner Evangelina, have built a veritable empire, selling over 30,000 pairs of shoes a year at Neiman Marcus alone.

The list of stars devoted to the shoe designer is seemingly endless: Jennifer Aniston married Brad Pitt in four inch Blahnik stilettos; Suzanne Somers hocks her wares on HSN in Blahnik stilettos (even at one point riding an exercise bike in the pricey shoes); model Kate Moss is said to have declared there are only three things she can’t do without—diamond earrings, jeans, and Manolo Blahniks; Joan Rivers once remarked, “You just put on your Manolos, and you automatically find yourself saying ‘hi, sailor’ to every man that walks by.”

But all the buzz lately has really been caused by one little television show on HBO: Sex and the City. Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) is hopelessly in love with the shoes and seems always to be buying yet another pair. In one episode, she sends out “staying single invitations,” so she can get gifts like those who have bridal and baby showers. Where did she register? Blahniks’ New York boutique, of course. In another episode, she pleads with a mugger, “You can take my Fendi baguette, you can take my ring and my watch, but don’t take my Manolo Blahniks.”

Another level of the man’s mystique comes, of course, from his famous sketches. Like Andy Warhol, who captured our postmodern fancies with his pop art, so Blahnik shows us something of glamour, fashion, fantasy with the sexy curves, phallic lines, and fanciful color in his artwork. The drawings speak to us of love and sex and power and champagne and diamonds and the St. Regis, tenth floor.

Blahnik’s influences are diverse: Francois Truffaut, Jean-Luc Goddard, Pedro Almodovar, the new Frank Gehry building, Luchino Visconti (his favorite director), Marlene Dietrich walking across the desert in heels in Morocco (supposedly his earliest “shoe memory”), Paloma Picasso (a close friend, “family really”), Tina Chow, and Francisco de Zurbarán (his favorite painter).

Now a true fashion icon, Blahnik enjoys the good life. He has an apartment inLondon and a home in Bath. His recent collaborations have been with such giants as Calvin Klein, Isaac Mizrahi and John Galliano. Despite international acclaim, however, he still crafts each shoe himself, and out of hundreds of prototypes designed each season, in one of four small factories on the outskirts of Milan, only eighty-five shoes appear in each finished collection.

Manolo Blahnik shoes may be expensive, exclusive, creative, and of fine quality, but, let’s face it, what keeps us doling out thousands of dollars per pair comes down to one simple fact: my god, but they’re sexy as hell.

WHY SO MANY OF US DELAY HAPPINESS?

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another.

Then we are frustrated that the kids aren’t old enough and we’ll be more content when they are.

After that, we’re frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with.

We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.

We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire.

The truth is, there’s no better time to be happy than right now.

If not now, when?

Your life will always be filled with challenges.

It’s best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway.

One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D Souza. He said,

“For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin – real life.

But there was always some obstacle in the way, Something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid.

Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my “life”.

This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness.

Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time…and remember that time waits for no one.

So, stop waiting until you finish school,

· until you go back to school,

· until you lose ten pounds,

· until you gain ten pounds,

· until you have kids,

· until your kids leave the house,

· until you start work,

· until you retire,

· until you get married,

· until you get divorced,

· until Friday night, until Sunday morning,

· until you get a new car or home,

· until your car or home is paid off,

· until spring,

· until summer,

· until fall,

· until winter,

· until you are off welfare,

· until the first or fifteenth,

· until your song comes on,

· until you’ve had a drink,

· until you’ve sobered up,

· until you die,

· until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.
